War-weary residents of Ukraine’s eastern regions have said that President Petro Poroshenko “has blood on his hands,” Press TV reports.
A Slavyansk resident told a Press TV reporter that “We are Slavyansk residents. They said there are terrorists here, look, what terrorists? … Poroshenko has our blood on his hands.”
Anger mounts in eastern Ukraine as Kiev continues military operations against those who Poroshenko describes as “terrorists.”
Reports say that the Ukrainian Air Force continues strikes on cities in the Donetsk region.
Ukraine says that it is targeting armed pro-Russia protesters, but many civilians have been caught in the shelling which has been going on for days.
Kiev latest military operations come just a day after Poroshenko called for an end to the fighting within a week.
On June 8, five people were killed as Ukrainian forces continue the shelling of downtown Slavyansk.
On June 6, members of the self-proclaimed government of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) made a desperate call for aid for the residents of Slavyansk.
The call by the DPR officials came as a large number of residents in the eastern Ukrainian city are going without food and medical aid amid Kiev’s military operations.
Schools, houses, institutions and even an orphanage have been targeted by Kiev’s military in Slavyansk in recent weeks.
On June 4, Poroshenko met with US President Barack Obama to discuss the ongoing crisis in the Eastern European country. Obama announced he would be sending Kiev an additional $5 million in military equipment.
