Militants from the Boko Haram Takfiri group have attacked four villages in northeast Nigeria, killing a number of people.
The villages of Nuwari, Musari, Walori and Kolma were targeted on Saturday. In the first three villages, armed men on trucks opened fire on people and razed much of the area, residents said on Sunday.
Bunu Kaloma, a Nuwari resident, said the militants “burnt all the villages and took away all our livestock,” adding that 15 people were killed in the attacks.
Militants also attacked a wedding ceremony in the nearby village of Kolma.
“They came in after dark while a wedding party was going on and went on shooting and tossing explosives into homes,” Kolma resident, Bukar Mustapha, said.
The targeted villages are located in the Gamboru Ngala district in the state of Borno near the border with Cameroon.
Borno residents have faced almost daily raids in 2014, with reports saying that over 2,000 people have been killed since the beginning of the year.
Last month, the militants attacked the same region, killing hundreds of people.
The latest incident of violence comes as Nigeria is struggling to deal with the abduction of more than 200 female students by Boko Haram militants.
Boko Haram, whose name means “Western education is forbidden,” says its goal is to overthrow the Nigerian government. It has claimed responsibility for a number of deadly gun and bomb attacks in various parts of Nigeria since 2009.
