As Euroskeptics and anti-EU parties gain ground in the European Parliament elections, the leaders of some countries have reacted to the results.
French President Francois Hollande asked the European Union to reduce its role where it was “not necessary” on Monday.
He made the remarks after his Socialist Party was beaten by the far-right National Front Party which is headed by Marine Le Pen in the elections.
Hollande also said that the EU had become too complex and remote.
«Europe has to be simple, clear, to be effective where it is needed and to withdraw from where it is not necessary,» he said while speaking on French TV.
Britain’s Prime Minister David Cameron, whose Conservative Party lost seven seats, said EU leaders should learn from the election results.
